CareCam
Compatible: enable RTSP

Can you use a Ubiquiti UniFi Protect camera for daycare parent viewing?

Yes. UniFi Protect cameras work for daycare parent viewing. Turn on the RTSP stream for each camera in the Protect console and CareCam pulls it directly; Protect keeps recording as before.

UniFi cameras normally live inside Ubiquiti's Protect ecosystem, but Protect includes a per-camera RTSP option that publishes a standard local stream, and that's all CareCam needs. Enable it once per camera in the Protect console's camera settings, pick a stream quality (the medium or low stream keeps parent viewing light on mobile data), and CareCam's appliance pulls it from there.

Nothing else about your setup changes: Protect keeps recording to your console exactly as before, staff keep using the Protect app, and CareCam adds a separate, parent-facing layer: individual parent logins, each scoped to one classroom and to the viewing hours the center sets, live-only and video-only.

UniFi is one of the four brands we recommend sitewide (with Hikvision, Anpviz, and Hanwha): the streams are clean and reliable under on-demand streaming, and centers that already run UniFi networking gear often find it the natural fit.

What we recommend

Already run UniFi Protect? You need zero new cameras. Enable RTSP per camera in the Protect console, add CareCam's pre-configured appliance ($349 one-time), and you're set. Send us your camera list and we'll confirm the details before you change anything.

Ubiquiti UniFi Protect daycare camera FAQ

Do UniFi Protect cameras work with daycare parent viewing?
Yes. UniFi Protect can publish a standard RTSP stream per camera (you enable it in the Protect console's camera settings), and CareCam pulls that stream. Parents get individual logins scoped to their child's classroom and the center's viewing hours.
How do I enable RTSP on a UniFi camera?
In the UniFi Protect console, open the camera's settings and enable the RTSP stream at your preferred quality (medium or low works well for parent viewing). Protect shows the stream URL; you enter it in the CareCam dashboard. It's a one-time toggle per camera.
Does this interfere with Protect's recording?
No. Protect keeps recording to your console exactly as before. CareCam reads a separate RTSP stream and serves parents a live-only, video-only view: no recording or download features on the parent side.
Do we need new hardware or an installer?
No installer and no new cameras, just CareCam's small pre-configured appliance (about 8 watts, $349 one-time) on your network. Most centers are live about a week after signing up, the day the appliance arrives.
