CareCam

Live daycare camera

Watch your child's daycare classroom live — from anywhere

CareCam turns your daycare's existing cameras into a secure live stream for parents. No new hardware. No recording. Just a real-time view of your child's classroom during center hours.

What a "live" daycare camera actually means

"Live" means real time — not a clip recorded this morning that you watch tonight. When you open your child's classroom in CareCam, the stream starts on demand and shows what's happening in the room at that moment, with only a short buffer delay (usually 2–5 seconds) for smooth playback. Close the app and the stream stops; there's no recording left behind.

That on-demand, live-only design is the whole point. A true live daycare camera lets you glance in during a fussy morning, watch a few minutes of circle time on your lunch break, or check that nap time went fine — then get on with your day. You're not scrubbing through hours of footage, and the center isn't building an archive of your child that has to be stored and protected. What you see is now, and only now.

Need recording for security or incident review? That's a job for your center's own cameras — see the daycare security camera system page for how live parent viewing and security recording work together.

How CareCam live streaming is designed

Live access for parents requires careful design around privacy and security. Here's how CareCam handles it.

  • Live only

Real-time stream. No footage archived. You see what's happening now.

  • Login-gated

Each parent has their own account. Only your child's classrooms are visible to you.

  • Center hours only

Streaming is active only during hours your daycare enables — typically operating hours.

  • Encrypted

Video is streamed over HTTPS. No open camera URLs. No third-party access.

  • No audio

Video only — no microphone. Simplifies compliance with audio recording laws.

  • No recording for parents

CareCam does not provide a recording or screenshot feature to parents.

How parents get live camera access

  1. 1

    Your center connects cameras

The director enters camera credentials in CareCam. Works with most IP cameras via RTSP — no new hardware required in most cases.

  2. 2

    You get a secure login

You receive an email invitation. Create a password and your account is ready. Free for parents.

  3. 3

    Open the app or browser

Use the CareCam iOS or Android app, or open the CareCam web app in any browser. No plugin needed.

  4. 4

    Watch live during approved hours

Tap your child's classroom. The live feed starts. You can watch as long as you like during the center's viewing window.

Where and when you can watch live

Anywhere: you don't need to be near the daycare or on its network. Watch from the CareCam app on your phone, from a browser on your work laptop, or cast to a screen at home — the live feed follows you.

During center hours: each center decides when streaming is on, almost always matching its operating hours (for example, weekdays 7am–6pm). Outside that window the feed is off — there's no around-the-clock access to a classroom, which keeps staff and children comfortable and keeps the system squarely about daytime peace of mind.

Add live camera access to your center

If your center has IP cameras, you're probably already set. CareCam connects to most RTSP-compatible cameras — Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, Amcrest, UniFi, and more. Plans start at $29/month with no installation required.

Live daycare camera questions

What is a live daycare camera?
A live daycare camera is a classroom camera connected to streaming software that lets parents watch in real time from a phone or browser. The camera is in the classroom; the software authenticates parents and routes the live stream securely. CareCam is the software layer your center uses to turn existing IP cameras into a parent-accessible live stream.
Is the live stream really live — or is there a delay?
The stream is live with a very short buffer delay (typically 2–5 seconds). You're seeing what's happening in the classroom as it happens, not recorded footage from earlier.
Why is CareCam live-only instead of recorded?
Live-only is a deliberate privacy choice. Because CareCam never stores parent-facing footage, there's no archive that could be leaked, breached, shared, or subpoenaed. Parents get real-time reassurance, and the center avoids creating a video library it would have to secure and retain. Your own security cameras and NVR still handle any recording you need for incidents.
Can I watch the daycare camera from work?
Yes. CareCam works from any device with a browser — your work laptop, phone, or tablet. You don't need to be on the same network as the daycare. Log in and watch from anywhere during approved hours.
Can both parents and other caregivers get access?
Yes. The center can invite more than one guardian per child — each gets their own separate login, so both parents and any approved caregivers can have access to the same classroom, not a single shared account.
Can my co-parent also watch?
Yes. Each parent or guardian has their own CareCam account. Your partner can be invited separately by the center. Both can watch simultaneously.
Does watching the live stream use a lot of mobile data?
A live video stream uses roughly the same data as a video call or streaming video — plan for a few hundred MB per hour depending on quality. If you watch for long stretches, use Wi-Fi to avoid using up mobile data.
Does the live stream work on my TV?
You can cast from your phone or open the CareCam web app in a browser on any device including smart TVs. There's no dedicated TV app, but the browser version works on any screen.
What if the stream goes offline?
Streams can go offline if the center loses internet connection, the cameras lose power, or you're outside the viewing hours window. If you're inside approved hours and can't connect, contact your center — it's likely a local network or camera issue they need to address.
My daycare doesn't have live streaming. How do I get it?
Share carecam.io with your director. Most centers already have compatible cameras and can be set up in a few hours. Plans start at $29/month — free for parents.
