Can you use a Hikvision camera for daycare parent viewing?

Yes. Hikvision cameras work great for daycare parent viewing. Every Hikvision IP camera streams standard RTSP/ONVIF with a configurable substream, and CareCam pulls that stream directly, no new cameras, no installer.

Hikvision is one of the most widely installed camera brands in daycare centers, and it's one of the smoothest with CareCam: full RTSP and ONVIF support on every IP model, plus a configurable substream so parent viewing runs at a mobile-friendly resolution without touching your full-resolution recording.

It works whether your cameras sit directly on your network or plug into a Hikvision NVR's PoE ports. In the NVR case, CareCam pulls each channel's stream through the NVR. Your recording continues exactly as before, and parents get a live-only, video-only view scoped to their child's classroom.

Two things worth checking before you connect: newer Hikvision models default to H.265, and the parent-viewing stream needs to be H.264, a one-toggle change in the camera's video settings. And the cameras (or the NVR) need to be reachable on your network; if your cameras live on a separate VLAN, that's a supported setup too.

One procurement note: Hikvision equipment can't be purchased with federal funds under the NDAA. That has no effect on using cameras you already own with CareCam, but if your center buys cameras under federal-funding rules, Hanwha and Anpviz are the NDAA-compliant picks.

Do Hikvision cameras work with daycare parent viewing?
Yes. Every Hikvision IP camera streams standard RTSP/ONVIF with a configurable substream, which is exactly what CareCam pulls. Each parent gets their own login, sees only their child's classroom, and only during the hours the center sets.
Can CareCam pull streams through our Hikvision NVR?
Yes. If your cameras plug into the NVR's PoE ports, CareCam pulls each channel's stream through the NVR. Your NVR keeps recording exactly as before. Parent viewing is live-only and doesn't touch the recorded footage.
Do we need new hardware or an installer?
No installer, and usually no new cameras. You add CareCam's small pre-configured appliance (about 8 watts, $349 one-time), enter your camera credentials in the dashboard, and you're set. Most centers are live about a week after signing up, the day the appliance arrives.
Our Hikvision cameras are set to H.265. Is that a problem?
Only a small one. The parent-viewing stream needs to be H.264 so it plays in every browser; on Hikvision that's a one-toggle change in the camera's video settings, usually on the substream so your main recording stream stays untouched.
Does Hikvision's NDAA status affect using CareCam?
No. CareCam works with the Hikvision cameras you already own regardless. The NDAA only restricts buying new Hikvision equipment with federal funds. If your center purchases under federal-funding rules, Hanwha Wisenet and Anpviz are NDAA-compliant alternatives that work equally well with CareCam.
