CareCam
Not reliable: beta firmware only

Can you use a Wyze camera for daycare parent viewing?

Not reliably. Wyze cameras aren't dependable for daycare parent viewing. RTSP on Wyze is a beta side-firmware for a few older models, and Wyze has repeatedly removed and changed it.

Wyze has flip-flopped on RTSP for years: it exists only as separate beta firmware for a few models (like the Cam v3 and Pan v3), was removed from the Cam v4 in a 2026 firmware update, and installing the RTSP firmware cuts the camera off from new Wyze app features. Wyze's own support pages describe it as a beta that may not be updated.

A daycare feed that parents rely on every day can't sit on a beta firmware that the vendor may pull in the next update. Even when Wyze RTSP works, it's a per-camera hack with no guarantee it survives a firmware refresh.

If you already stream a Wyze v3 on RTSP firmware and it's stable, it can technically connect, but we don't recommend building your daycare's parent viewing on it.

What we recommend

For roughly the same money as a Wyze, buy a camera with first-class RTSP support. We recommend wired: Anpviz or Reolink PoE, ~$40–90. Only if the room can't be wired would we point you to a WiFi TP-Link Tapo instead (~$25–50). Same camera quality class, no firmware roulette, and fully supported by CareCam.

Here's what that costs, all in

One room parents watch

$374–$399 to start

then $49/month

  • 1 plug-in camera you buy on Amazon
  • CareCam appliance, arrives pre-configured
  • Unlimited parent accounts, free for parents
  • You set the hours parents can watch

Two rooms parents watch

$399–$449 to start

then $49/month

  • 2 plug-in cameras you buy on Amazon
  • CareCam appliance, arrives pre-configured
  • Unlimited parent accounts, free for parents
  • You set the hours parents can watch

Starting cost is the $349 CareCam appliance (one-time) plus $25–$50 per plug-in camera, bought from Amazon so the hardware stays yours. Your Wyze cameras keep working exactly as they do now. Month-to-month after that, cancel anytime.

Wyze daycare camera FAQ

Does Wyze support RTSP in 2026?
Only as beta firmware on certain older models (such as Cam v3 and Pan v3), and Wyze removed RTSP from the Cam v4 in a 2026 firmware update. It is not a stock, supported feature, and the RTSP firmware forgoes new app features.
Can I use my existing Wyze cameras for daycare parent viewing?
We don't recommend it. Parent viewing needs a stream that's stable for months at a time; Wyze RTSP is a beta that the vendor has changed and removed repeatedly. A ~$30–50 Tapo camera gives you dependable RTSP for nearly the same price as a Wyze.
What's the best budget alternative to Wyze for a home daycare?
Anpviz or Reolink PoE cameras (~$40–90) are what we recommend, wired is more reliable and easier for us to support. A TP-Link Tapo (~$25–50) is a fine fallback if the room genuinely can't be wired. Both stream standard RTSP that CareCam supports.
