Can you use a TP-Link Tapo camera for daycare parent viewing?

Yes. TP-Link Tapo cameras work well for daycare parent viewing. Tapo's plug-in indoor and outdoor cameras stream standard RTSP/ONVIF that CareCam pulls directly, and they're among the cheapest reliable options.

Tapo (TP-Link's smart-home line) supports RTSP and ONVIF on its plug-in indoor and outdoor cameras: you create a camera account in the Tapo app, and the camera serves a standard local stream any professional system can pull. At roughly $25–50 per camera, it's the least expensive dependable route to parent viewing.

Because Tapo cameras are WiFi with a plug-in power adapter, they're especially practical in a home daycare: no ethernet runs, no PoE switch, just a wall outlet in each room. The trade-off versus wired PoE (Anpviz/Reolink) is WiFi dependence: on a solid home network they run all day without issue.

What we recommend

For a no-wiring home daycare setup: one Tapo indoor camera per room (~$25–50 each) plus CareCam's pre-configured appliance. If you'd rather have wired reliability, Anpviz or Reolink PoE with a small PoE switch is the step up.

TP-Link Tapo daycare camera FAQ

Do Tapo cameras support RTSP?
Yes. TP-Link Tapo plug-in cameras support RTSP and ONVIF. You enable a camera account in the Tapo app and the camera serves a standard local stream on your network.
Can I use my existing Tapo cameras for daycare parent viewing?
Very likely yes. CareCam pulls the Tapo RTSP stream directly; parents get individual logins scoped to their child's room and your viewing hours. Send us your model number and we'll confirm.
Are WiFi cameras reliable enough for a daycare feed?
On a solid home WiFi network, yes. Tapo cameras hold a continuous local stream fine. If you want maximum reliability, wired PoE cameras (Anpviz, Reolink) remove WiFi from the equation entirely, at the cost of running an ethernet cable.
